No problem - all leather softens a little with use - if anything I'd say it makes it more 'homely'! It stays open pretty easily after a bit of use - obviously Psalms stays open much easier than Genesis but after a bit of use it's fine.

Thanks for your reply! Can I just ask you a couple more questions about the leather cover? Is it still stiff like new, or has it softened up over time - and if so, to what extent? Does the bible stay open no matter which bit of it you're reading or does it try to close itself?
Thanks again,
Estel

Thanks for your comment - I went for bonded leather and it now looks like this when flat: http://twitpic.com/gckz5

I've been very pleased with it and it has worn well. As I said in my post, a big bug bear for mr is the size! I agree with your concerns about the tru-tone. I don't think the 'build quality' is quite as high...

Enjoy your purchase whichever you go for and may it be well worn out with many hour of reading!

Hi there,

Just wondering what covering you opted for for your ESV study bible? I'm currently looking to invest in one but can't make up my mind about what cover to go for. I can't handle hardcover bibles so for me it's a choice between genuine leather or tru-tone. There is only £10 difference in price so I don't mind on that front. My concern is that the tru-tone might not weather well over the years (I'm intending the bible to be an investment), but I have also heard reports of the covering on the leather ones not lying flat when the bible is sat on a desk. So I can't decide which one would be better... What did you go for and has it served you well?

Thanks!
